Seven Corporal Works of Mercy

Each year during lent, we will try to fulfill one of the Seven Corporal Works of Mercy set forth by our Church. Listed below are each of these corporal works and an indication of how we hope to fulfill them.
February 22, 2026 – 1st Sunday of Lent * Drink for the Thirsty
A 16 oz bottle water collection will take place at all Masses to help Carolyn’s place.
March 1, 2026 – 2nd Sunday of Lent * Feed the Hungry
We will have a special food drive to collect food for Mother Theresa Food Pantry.
March 8, 2026 – 3rd Sunday of Lent * Care for the Sick
A communal celebration of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sickwithin Mass on Saturday, March 7, 2026, 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 11:00 am. If you are planning to participate, please call the Rectory office at 860-583-1833.
March 15, 2026 – 4th Sunday of Lent * Care for the Needy
A collection of toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, single bed sheets and pillowcases will take place at all Masses to help the St. Vincent De Paul Shelter.
March 21, 2026 (Saturday, Vigil Mass) – 5th Sunday of Lent * Bury the Dead
A Memorial Mass for all parishioners who died in 2025, Saturday March 21, 2026, 4:00 p.m. All family members are invited to attend.Candles of Remembrance will be given to each family to be placed before the Altar. *If you are planning to participate, please call the Rectory office at 860-583-1833.
March 29, 2026 – Palm Sunday * Visit the Prisoners and Welcome the Strangers
Money collection to buy new Bibles for residents living in local half-way houses and prisons. Refreshments after all weekend Masses will be available to welcome new parishioners to our St. Matthew family and to visit with old friends.
